After qualifying as a teacher from Wits University, Itzkin has devoted her career to skills development. Armed with her cumlaude Masters of Education degree which focused on the importance of the generic Key Skills in education and training (known in South Africa as the Critical Cross Fields Outcome), Itzkin has an impressive work history. Prior to CHIETA, she spent five years as Deputy Director Assessment Design at the Independent Examinations Board (adult education), where she was instrumental in translating and administering ABET assessments in all 11 official languages. She also worked for SAFCERT, as part of the transition to UMALUSI, to set in place examination systems for ABET South Africa, and at the Mining Qualifications Authority as ABET Manager where Itzkin developed and registered the first MQA qualifications for the mining sector at NQF1.
